Infantrymen march across the steppe near the Don river purposely
spacing themselves apart in order to minimise the threat of aerial
attack.
The troops are wearing a variety of kit and weapons including the
7.92mm Kar.98k Mauser rifle and ammunition carriers for the MG-34
machine gun. Each rifle company was provided with a heavy machine gun
group with two tripod mounted heavy MG-34s.
