TALK ABOUT GAZA AND A TOOTHLESS UN RESOLVE ?
Talking to Hamas does not stop rocket attacks on Israel. Talking to
Israel does not stop the Israeli military action in Gaza. The UN
Secretary General can plead with Hamas and Israel to stop fighting,
and elder statesman does not get the same respect and response that
the President of the United States commands in light of his being
powerful military. What does this say about the world we live in, the
behavior of nations in regard to civilian victims of conflict, and
about peace ? The only successes, in making peace, come from
overwhelming military force. Diplomacy is the world's biggest lie.
Clearly the United Nations needs military power, to enforce its
resolutions, and to enforce peace. Words will never be enough. It is
simply a fact of human civilization and its obvious lack of
When people begin to fight, tempers flare, and strong emotions, anger
and motives for revenge take over from any semblance to reason, and

I believe that it shows America what the dangers are when a son is
regarded as being made in the image of the father, who was and is a
great man, and the leader who led the world out of the Cold War era to
new opportunities for world peace and progress. The son is not the
father. Religion may have taught differently, but history does not
provide a real basis for that belief. That son is not even a credible
reflection of the image of the father. I think we sometimes confuse
religious ideas with human realities, imposing the religious paradigm
onto the realities of human life, where it is not at all appropriate
to do so. In a democracy we must not choose to elect persons simply
because they bear the name of a successful previous generation. They
must instead distinguish themselves, as themselves, not simply ride on
the legacy of their forefathers.
