in Massive, Mysterious Explosion

SCITUATE - Aftershocks and fallout still continue
in this Massachusetts town, a month after a nuclear power
plant worker died in a massive, unexplained explosion.
David Kupris, 45, an employee in the electrical lab
at Pilgrim Nuclear Power plant, was killed.
Neighbors of Kupris were understandably distraught.
"It will probably take months to sort things out
with the insurance company. It is really inconvenient.
As time goes on, we are beginning to realize the
enormity of the situation", said Gary MacKinnon.
The cause of the blast remains unclear. Suicide?
Foul Play? None of the above?
Continued MacKinnon, "If it was intentional, things
could get ugly. People might start getting a little
crazy. I can't be held responsible. People who are
at the end of their endurance, and who are comitting
suicide, should have some respect for their
neighbor's property. There will be hell to pay.
We simply won't tolerate it."
The explosion sent debris flying through the neighborhood,
including tattered photographs, a slightly singed
surfboard, a badly burned boogie board, a kitchen cabinet
hinge, a cap from a bottle of Pepto Bismol that expired
in 2006, a knob key that doesn't seem to fit anywhere,
a crockpot top, and some oddly shaped parts that could
not be identified, but are probably from an old sewing
machine or maybe a washer/dryer.
Francine Mishali described the explosion like a
"sonic boom, times two thousand". I looked up and there was
an orange ball of flames, and thick black smoke,
but no mushroom cloud."
Francine knows first-hand of the shattering loss.
One of her front windows was shattered, and now is
covered temporarily in unsightly plywood.
Francine is still finding tiny shards of glass
in some of her potted plants.
As Francine notes, "But for the grace of God,
it wasn't worse."

smorgasbord, I developed a lot of the surreal ideas in my books,
and especially my weird habit of looking at art and myth in terms
