born in a funeral home
where grandfather died, your grandmother died,
your father died, your mother died,
your son died, your daughter died, your wife died,
and a new child was needed to take their place
Religion is the lucky, magic rabbit's foot
hanging over your car's dash
protecting you like garlic, against vampires
but not against flat tires
or drunks that collide in a shower
of flying metal and shattered glass
