Something to Live For: Live at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola is a new CD by
beloved piano jazz player and vocalist Barbara Carroll, whose storied
career began in a 1951 Manhattan nightclub. Jay Leon on bass and Alvin
Atkinson on drums, and special guest star Ken Peplowski on tenor
saxophone and clarinet lend their talents to this elegant, sweeping,
and rapturous collection. Highly recommended, especially for jazz

Ghanaian reggae performer Rocky Dawuni presents Hymns for the Rebel
Soul, an album that reflects his musical influences from travels
around the world. The songs range from "Jerusalem", a song that
combines Middle Eastern harmonic sense in its guitar, and Arabic
Dumbek rhythm in counterpart to Dawuni's lyrics; to "Take it Slow
(Love Love Love)" that was composed during a tour with Finnish pop
stars, and involves Scandinavian rhythms and harmonies, even a Finnish
folk flute. Hymns for the Rebel Souls reflects the artist's drive to
not only create memorable music, but also to spread a message of
social justice and the value of working for a better world - his
involvement on behalf of African causes such as UNICEF, the Carter
Center, and Product (Red) in an effort to combat poverty and the
spread of AIDS is well known. An emotional, passionate, and eclectic

"Adje! Adje!" is a music CD album by the ensemble band Elikeh, who
take their name from an African word meaning "rooted-ness". Togolese-
born singer, guitarist, composer, and Elikeh's founder Massama Dogo
sings in a hybrid dialect used only in Togo's capital, accompanied by
guitars, flute, and a music style that blends traditional African and
contemporary elements into a polyrhythmic whole. Driving the album is
a strong theme of social justice, and how important it is for people
to band together against corruption and excessive greed, whether
perpetuated by the state itself or private corporations. A powerful,
invigorating call to participate in making the world a better place,
