Maybe, maybe not. The Mormons played a significant roll in the
western expansion movement. Some conspiracy theorists link Mormonism
to Freemasonry, and hence to the Illuminati.
The Illuminati is more far reaching than you suppose. During the
Protestant reformation, they controlled both the Vatican and the
reform movements. During the Cold War, they controlled governments
and social institutions on both sides of the Iron Curtain.
