You don't need to go beyond this. You seem absolutely unable to
conceive of the notion that someone can believe in God and not
interpret Genesis the way you do. From your POV most of the
people in the world, in the U.S. are atheists. I wonder how far
from your interpretation one can go before you call the person an
atheist. Are Catholics atheists? Lutherans? Anglicans?
