Jail is one of the lesser risks a spy runs.
In the late 1950s Colonel Peter Popov, an officer in Russia's military
intelligence service, the GRU, was discovered to be a double agent
working for the west.
His penalty, later leaked and officially recorded as a dreadful warning
to Western Intelligence agencies-was savage. He was tossed live into a
furnace in front of an audience of his GRU colleagues in 1959.
Doubling a childs height on its second birthday gives a close estimate of
his final adult height. A boy of 2 is 49.5% of his adult height, a girl
of 2 is 52.8% of her adult height.
The adult human body contains approximately 650 muscles, over 100 joints,
100.000km of blood vessels and 13,000 million nerve cells. An adult has
206 bones-nearly half of them in the hands and feet. A baby has 300
bones at birth, but 94 fuse together during childhood. (and I ache in
every damned one LOL).
Human bone is as strong as granite in supporting weight. a block the size
of a matchbox can support 9 tonnes-four times as much as concrete.
A mans testicles manufacture 10 million new sperm cells a day- enough in
six months to populate the whole world. (No wonder we have so many
immigrants LOL.)
The lungs contain aa total of 300,000 million capillaries-tiny blood
vessels-which would stretch 2400km (1500 miles) if laid end to end.
The body of the average adult contains 45 litres (79 pints) of water-
about 65% of the total weight.
The focussing muscles of the eye move about 100,000 times a day. To give
the leg muscles the same exercise would involve walking 80km (50 miles) a
day.
You grow by about 8mm (0.3 inches) every night when you are asleep, but
shrink to your former height the following day. (Wonder which part they
watched LOL).
