In my morning paper of May 20th:-
"AT LAST,AMERICA HAS AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE (and yes, it's English)"
"In a new twist to the contentious immigration debate, the Senate has
voted to designate English the national language of the United States,
& to effectively ban federal government ordinances & services in any
language other than English. (63 to 34 vote)
"And legend has it that English only defeated German by a single vote
to become the official language of the US in a 1795 Congressional
debate."
Makes you wonder, if that original vote had gone the other way, which
side would America have fought alongside in WW 1 & 2?
