I think they *do* care. Some of them a lot but they don't want to get
involved in fights about issues they don't know much about. I can't
blame them for that. I got real life blown up in one of them!

Our wise friend said something about that too. You are not the first to
have it happen to and far from the last. Get used to it and try not to
let it bother you. Bad for digestion. Go out and deliver a pizza?

Most people come to these groups for the files and don't read any text
posts. We should know this because some of them said so. I don't think
there is anything we can do to change it.

I disagree. *You* should stand up for what you believe in or else how
can you expect anybody else to? Don't let the faults of other people
make you want to be like them. Show by example how you want them to be
and some may follow. No guarantees but I think the effort is worth it
if it just makes people think things they didn't before.
Its easy to destroy but hard to build. Thats what makes "good"
(builders) so valuable. *You* are valuable to us even if most people
don't know it. Keep up the good works for us and the reward will be the
self satisfaction of a good man knowing you really did help.
Maybe a few thanks too. Icing on the cake isn't bad but its the cake
that really counts.

Okay I will help a little.
Our wise friend said giving people important advice is useless if we
can't motivate them to respect and use it.
I suggest you make it more obvious the FAQ you posted is a compilation
of posts and writings of many experts and not just your own opinions.
TG opposed it because he saw it as part of you and not part of the
whole BL society.
Examples of mistakes posters have made will help too. It would lessen
the sting of someone being corrected if he could see even the great
security expert KidHacker himself could forget and break most of the
security rules he advised about. *All* of us have to be constantly on
guard against security slip-ups our human nature can make us do or we
*will* get into serious trouble and feel really stupid too.
We can't do better if we don't believe we need to. Everybody needs to!
Something our wise friend told me in email could have a place in this
post. Its possible a lot of visitors to these groups have a problem
taking what happens in these groups seriously because of the "turn off
the computer and it all goes away" attitude. "Only real life is
important because cyber life isn't real." They can't make the
connection that what can happen here can literally *kill* them in their
real life. Maybe they don't want to? People don't come here to feel
bad. They want to have fun and get their porn fix. I don't know what we
can do to make them see beyond that but we can keep trying. I think we
should because we care.
