To Niklas, Sniv has always been a kissable little hunk! I would read
Niklas' expression as intrigued surprise: Sniv is usually much more
reserved, and the scarves are really *quite* out of character for him.

Sniv? Bratty? You jest. I would say that the only *brat* in N&F is
Niklas' younger sister, Tina.
And, taking into consideration the three-panel strip in the character
introduction for Jason, in which he contemplates growing up with much
less than enthusiasm, I am inclined to see the story as showing Jason
becoming more than just a kid.
