Solomon's Private File #393
These stories about Stephen and Solomon take place starting in the
1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 33 in this story, in the Summer of 2059.

I said to the the feather topped dark grey skinned women behind the
desk, "So you killed Knapgak." She almost jumped out of her skin, she
was so startled. When she had recovered enough to speak, she said,
ability in the fighting arts. At the very top, the Senior Masters, we
enter a different state of being, where we can use the energy of our
bodies to enhance our abilities, and even strike with it. One ability
it enables, is to influence the will of others, including how they
perceive and act with the Master. You were unable to put your attention
on me. I stopped that influence, and then you noticed me. I do have to
admit I might like surprising people a little too much." She smiled,
and said, "I wouldn't disagree with that."
She said, "I used your advice with the pins." I said, "On Knapgak,
yes." She said, "I think you knew I would." I said, "For one of your
intelligence, you would know you had little choice in that. That's
caused Kringont to forgo hiring competent assassins. I er, helped him
with that decision, with Marcel. Actually he did most of the
persuasion. Fun to watch for a change." She grinned, and said, "I envy
you that. Your alliance with Muniler is still active?" I said, "Not
actually an alliance. It's something like intelligent mutual tolerance.
I don't ruin him, he doesn't interfere with me and mine. I've hired
some of his people as guards, but that's mostly all. How intelligent
will YOU be about this? Oh, don't deny you're the boss here." She said,
"I didn't expect you to see that." I said, "Unusual in this society to
be visible, but it happens in private more often than people think."
She said, "How did you know this about me?" I said, "Obvious you ran
the attack. Competent people, so you had to be much more competent. I
assume you didn't let Knapgak see you as the leader. He wouldn't have
believed you, and if he had, he wouldn't have let you get close enough
to him to kill him. Those who hire good assassins, don't want to be
their victims."
She said, "My high opinion of you is increasing." I said, "It's wise
to not expose all who you are, that you can do, until you have to." She
said, "That you say this, who is thought to be the most wise, means
that what I know of you, is not all who YOU are." I said, "And I've
shown you more than any person in this land knows of some of my
abilities, but Marcel." She said, "So there is much more." I said,
"Most of which you wouldn't believe, even after witnessing." She
grinned, and said, "Frustrating, not knowing. You're here to tell me
your rules for me and mine." I said, "Recommendations. If you want to
be able to use doctors and midwives, best to not attack them. I'll be
teaching some of them in my office building." She said, "Reasonable.
Less income, but better service. I can agree to that. You also want me
to not interfere with Marcel and his family." I said, "I'm conflicted
on that." She grinned, and said, "I understand. To frustrate you, I
should leave him alone."
I said, "Yes, in a way I did use you to train him and increase his
respect in the community. But only in not interfering with the major
part of the attack. He knew of your role, and would have stopped you. I
didn't want him to be seen attacking a woman who wasn't doing something
obviously dangerous. The more he is opposed, the stronger he will
become. You know something of that, yourself." She said, "I do. It's in
my best interest not to have him, and you, desire to ruin me, which you
won't, if I'm careful." I said, "True. A community is composed of many
parts, that should exist in proper balance. All have their own
functions, and all are necessary. So necessary, they will be created,
if somehow they were not there. You know this, more than any other,
here." She said, "I didn't believe I could be more impressed by you." I
said, "I see. Revenge by embarrassment." She laughed.
I said, "Unfortunately for my entertainment, I have to request that
you do not interfere with Marcel and his family. That includes the
family of his wife. Their son is now my new student. No, he will not be
like Marcel. He may become a doctor." She said, "I would do more for
him. That he is your student, when you were set to leave, means he has
special worth. I offer protection." I said, "So has Muniler. He
believes I am teaching Raminor about being holy." She stared at me, and
said, "This is more than I expected you to say. There have been rumors
about you in this area, not the least of which is that you try to cause
the least injury in what you do." I said, "Beliefs are personal, and,
at the least, strange to others. I work only with reality, of which
labels are not." She said, "I understand what you're not saying." I
said, "There is something you might be thinking of doing, if a
situation seems to require it, that you should not. If a person is
injured in his presence, he will feel it as if it happened to him." She
said, "Oh! Thank you for that warning. I would never have considered
that." I said, "Some unusual talents are more of a curse than a
blessing."
She looked at me with compassion, "You have this talent." I said,
"Yes, but I'm stronger. It doesn't rule me. It can't, because I feel it
for the entire world, constantly." She said, "Wow! I don't know why,
but I believe you." I said, "You have the ability to sometimes sense
the truth in others. I am unable to lie." She said, "You ARE holy, by
any definition of the world. And you can't deny it. What a trap!" I
said, simply, "Don't do that." She laughed. I said, "For your
reputation, it should not be known to others that I've been here." She
grinned, and said, "True. Oh, wait. Feeling all, it means you know all
that happens! That requires some more thinking." I grinned, and said,
"I wondered if you would see that." She laughed. I said, "Only you in
this land, know this. I expect you to not share that, and damage your
own credibility." She said, "Revenge by frustration?" I said, "It's not
wise to try to best me." We grinned. I shifted out. She wasn't
surprised.
I said to Marcel, "The poison pin woman. She's now in charge of
Knapgak's gang." He said, "Unusual." I said, "It and she is. The most
intelligent person I've met in this land. Oh, don't look like that.
You're still developing. She's as good as she's going to get." He had
to grin. I said, "She's had a hard life. It can defeat a person, or
make them stronger. She agrees to not attack doctors and midwives. And
me and mine, including your wife's family. She actually offered
protection for Raminor as soon as I told her he was my new student." He
said, "I don't understand why." I said, "She said he must be special,
to keep me from rejoining my family. Told you she was intelligent." He
said, "If I hadn't believed you before, I would have to now." I said,
"But she might not be able to resist some playing." He grinned widely,
and said, "I can appreciate that." Grins and a hug.
The Chairman of the Council retired. I said to him, "There's an
office for you in my building. No obligation. Use it as you will. I
know you. Curiosity is going to make you do it." He laughed. He said,
"I can watch how your medical establishment works." I said, "It won't
stop there. You will have to get involved. I like that about you." He
sighed, and said, "You know me too well." I said, "Yes." He chuckled. I
said, "I have a kind of apprentice now." He said, "I've heard.
Raminor." I said, "Yes. In healing, and in other like things." He said,
"Is he holy?" I said, "Not you, too!" He laughed, and said, "You know
people are beginning to think that of you." I said, "He may become so.
He also may be available for your instruction in administration. You
WILL want to help him. You won't be able to resist him." He grinned,
and said, "I'm not surprised. You know people like no other." I said,
"Yes, that's true."
He looked at me strangely, and said, "You don't lie, and you didn't
qualify that! Wow! How you can know that to a certainty, I can't think
of, and I probably shouldn't try." I said, "Wise. Passed the test." He
said, "Ever the teacher!" I said, "Part of who I am. A good part, I
think." He said, "I have to agree. When may I see the office?" We
chuckled. We went right there. He said, "This is well done!" I said,
"Only the best for you. I wouldn't want to insult the Council, in
providing the Chairman less than the best. Well, maybe a little insult,
just for fun." He laughed.
I said, "Raminor is arriving." He said, "Oh, your special hearing." I
looked straight at him, and said, "While I do have unusually sensitive
hearing, I don't need any sense of the body to know of his arrival." He
said, "I was waiting for you to tell me. Yes, you're holy. I will keep
it to myself." I said, "Raminor may know." He smiled. I said, "In all
but teaching the like, I do not use my unusual abilities in daily
actions. That would be unfair. I use the skill of my body and
intelligence, even in fighting." He said, "I knew that. But such
skill!" I said, "From hard training from early childhood." Raminor
heard us, and peeked in the door. I said, "Come in, Raminor!" I made
the introductions, and said, "Another teacher for you, if you and he
agree." Chairman said, "I do agree!" Raminor said, "Wow!" I said, "That
means he agrees." Chuckles. I said, "For now, our new manager would
like to examine all he will be managing in spite of himself." Grins.
I said to Raminor in my office, "He retired from the Council, but he
is unable to do nothing. Here there is something, and what he can and
would like to do, that needs to be done. A great match!" He said,
thoughtfully, "I see that it is. Would you have planned this venture,
if he had not been expected to be available and willing?" I said, "Did
I ask you to be intelligent right now?" He laughed hard. I told him
more about the arrangements with the crime bosses. He had some wows for
that. Then he showed me his progress in psionics, and we discussed
another academic crystal. He said, "I've never heard of this being
known." I said, "And how much of the world have you heard?" He said,
"Yes, there is that, but I know you. You evaded. That means another
person would have lied." I said, "Not another one! Marcel wasn't
enough?" He laughed.
Then he said, "May I ask about a personal matter?" I said, "You may
ask anything, but I might not always answer." He said, "Fair enough.
The issue in the hug that needed cleaning. I have not been able to
achieve that intensity on my own. Do you know why?" I said, "Yes. It's
a strange thing about the mind and body, as it relates to sexual
sensitivity and responses. We are made to do it with another, or our
species wouldn't continue. It's the not physically knowing what exactly
will happen, that stimulates us more. Doing it to ourselves, can't have
that. You will find that if you use one hand all the time, and then
switch, it will be better, if a little more clumsy, until your body
becomes used to it. Proof of the concept." He said, "Thank you. I'm
surprised you would say it so er, simply." I said, "And that I should
be surprised you said it without embarrassment?" He said, "We are even.
Is this part of who we are?" I said, "Yes, actually, for we who can see
things inside and out without eyes. We can't be embarrassed by our
bodies or our feelings, with each other." He said, "Proof of concept!"
I groaned, and we hugged.
I said, "The body and the mind are not as separate as people think.
Training one, also trains the other, and for some things, there is no
good substitute." He said, "I have a bad feeling about this." I said,
"You might. There are many reasons why my students learn to fight.
Actual fighting is not the primary benefit of the study." He said,
"Good health is one." I said, "And for some, that is the only goal. If
"Efficiency!" I said, "You know you can move by reflex faster than you
can decide to do." He said, "Oh! We need to use the body to train our
mind to do that!" I said, "Yes. Also, learning fighting skill, includes
planning, concentration, perception, and speed of thinking." He said,
"I would think, evaluating other people, too." I said, "Yes. It also
increases confidence, and others can sense it in you. Girls, most of
all." He said, "I want to learn!" I said, "Who didn't expect that?"
Chuckles. I said, "Who needs tired hands?" He laughed.
We went to the basement gym. He said, "Wow! A great training room!" I
said, "Thank you. You might change your mind, depending on how your
body feels." Grins. I showed him some stretching exercises. He said,
"That's not possible!" I said, "Shouldn't argue with reality. It always
wins. Well, with sane people." He said, "I love how you say things!" I
said, "A little secret; so do I." Grins. He did the moves. I said, "For
a beginner, you're very flexible. Hmm, been trying different positions
to reach fun things?" He said, "Exactly." I said, "Being more flexible
will help with that, and very much with another person. Careful! Don't
strain anything." Grins. I said, "You can do the stretching as much as
you want, if you don't strain. Often, is good, better than a lot at one
time. Also, you can do these exercises." I showed him. He said, "I
wouldn't have thought to strengthen the fingers." I said, "After our
minds, our hands are our best tools. Strength is very useful. Shake a
man's hand weakly, he won't respect you. And women like strong hands."
He said, "It must be true, or you wouldn't keep saying those things,
but it does look suspiciously like a way to motivate me." I said, "I
say it for that reason, yes, but it's very true. Women LOVE a strong
man, as an indication of good protection of the family. It's
biological, like men like pretty women, with concentration on
reproductive and child rearing parts." He said, "Oh! That's a good
idea." I said, "Nature doesn't actually need our approval." Chuckles.
