From the a physical PoV the threadfall is nonsense, I'm afraid.
One could possibly accept that the thread ovoids were left along the
orbit of the "red star," but even if we claim that the orbital planes
of the red star and Pern coincide perfectly, Pern would only cross the
orbit of the red star twice per year, during which time there would be
a period with continual threadfall, day and night, as Pern attracts
thread ovoids from its vicinity.
