Thank you for your response to my streaming question Heron. You are using

I believe Airport Express is a Mac-based receiver that plugs into your
HiFi system. Would JRiver send to that OK or would I need a Windows (or
Linux - I have both) -friendly equivalent? It's this hardware beast that
I have been trying to get to terms with. You can buy hardware streamers,
some of which will accept a USB or hard drive connected directly, but
they get variable reviews and are relatively expensive. I was wondering
about an external sound card connected to the USB of a laptop, with a
line-out socket but they, too, get variable reviews.
