they're old technology. they are what you burn to a cd or dvd. the cue file
tells the software how the image should be burnt to a disk.
if you use something like daemon tools you can mount the image as a virtual
cd/dvd and access whatever is on it. which is what most of us now do as hdd
space is so cheep these days and dvd's take up physical space.
you can also burn the image to disk with daemon tools, though imageburn is a, in
my opinion, a better tool for the job.
