I've been trying to figure out the rationale and you've cleared it up, because I couldn't figure out the motivation to download a passworded post. I haven't been utilizing Usenet very long, and some of the customs here perplex me. I hope this doesn't disuade you from future posts, as I, along with many others follow your posts almost religiously! Don't let a douchebag or two rule the roost! Thanks again for all your efforts, JB!
I hadn't really been exposed much to these scam passworded posts until
recently when I began looking for HD movies. What I found are what is
typical now in the worst cases where you don't find out that they're
passworded until you actually extract them.
Unlike the type you used to see a year or so ago where you had to wait
some time after the post for the password but you WOULD get it and the
post itself was usually pretty good -- an untouched dvd9 or 2 dvd set
of a very popular or sought after classic title, OTOH these lately are
just dishonest scams where you're never going to find the password and
rather are forced to read ad spiels on sites, answer questionaires,
divulge private personal info, etc, but never are able to get to
extract the post because someone is dishonestly trying to generate web
traffic with the same ethics as e-mail spam and the post itself is a
fraud.
When you extract the post from the rars you're not asked for a
password right away, rather these posts are designed to string you on
by actually extracting another set of rars that requires the password
and you see a message that you need to visit a website to "find the
password at the bottom of the page" (which is a lie -- you can never
get to the bottom of the page but rather are forced to do things you
probably will not do and end up just deleting the useless post.
Fortunately nzb sites like nzbindex try to highlight in red that the
post is passworded if that info can be found in the headers or nfo.
But this doesn't work for those posts that don't reveal that they are
passworded. The alternative is to seek out posts which have been
pre-screened by humans at sites like nzbmatrix, newsbin, and ngindex,
or from posters you already know and trust.

P.S. That the smelly cunt is going about touting these PW'd posts
either shows just how clueless she is (she's admitted that she rarely
if ever downloads anything -- so she has no sense as to the problems
and issues of downloaders) or more likely that she just wants to
maliciously spread misinformation because she's basically a sociopath
who gets her kicks by controlling and misleading others and fomenting
discord.
