First person says
"They act that way in order to feel important."
I reply:
"So? Even if that be the case, if they have some need to feel more
important than they already feel, you can be grateful you don't have
that need."
How do you all take "..if that be the case"?

I used it because it's the subjunctive, and iiuc it makes the
if-clause even more conditional, more nearly contrary to fact, than
"if that is the case".
A) Am I right?
B) Is anyone else in this world going to see or at least feel the
difference? Will anyone know what I mean, or at least have a feeling
inside that I'm making clear that I'm not at all confirming that "that
is the case".
I've used the present subjunctive like this, like "if I were you",
several times in the last year, but I'm wondering if there is any
point to doing so.
