Richard Russo's novel "The Straight Man" is set in a university
English department. One of the characters, a young male prof, is known
to his colleagues as "Orshee" because of his annoying, reflexive habit
of chiming in with "or she" whenever one of said colleagues says "he."

BTW, I highly recommend Richard Russo's books, particularly his early
ones. He's probably best known for "Nobody's Fool" and "Empire Falls,"
both of which were made into pretty good movies.
