I've got to call you out on this make believe story.
You're saying that a police officer fired a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with 00
buckshot, hitting the perp. Then one pellet exited the perp, traveled 1280
feet, then pentrated an outside wall of a home, then pentrated a
refrigerator and the pellet was found inside the refrigerator.
You are one funny man. Eddie Murphy's got nothing on you.
I won't go into many of your flawed reason concerning your 223/12 ga
argument.
One thing to consider. Long distance shooting of 600 meters is an everyday
occurance with the M16/AR16, when have you ever heard of someone shooting a
shootgun at anything more than 120 yards?

But, for what it's worth, you can defend your family however you wish. But

Forget your other arguments. If you were to kill/shoot a perp inside your
home with shotgun, the DA would look at the incident but nothing would come
of it. Do the same with the AR15 and most DA's would look a lot closer
because you used an "assault rifle", not to mention the perp's family would
sue and probably win a high dollar law suit. Remember reality is only one
person's perception. In today's world you will be convicted of excessive
force, then that would open up the civil case to include everything you own.
You use whatever firearm you want to protect your family, but you will have
a hard time convincing others that your decision was the correct one.
