Legally it sounds about right. Discharging an unlicensed shotgun,
assault with a machete -> six years (actually three inside with good
behaviour ?).
Morally it could be more tricky depending on what the true facts are.
It's possible Rylance was truly a victim driven over the edge or
equally that he was an aggressive idiot who disliked youngsters on
principle (and behaved worse than they do when he was young).
No news article or even court transcript is going to give a true
picture of the situation,
