There was a bit on 'Discovery Times' the other night about
Iraqi television. Now free of Saddam, a huge variety of
programming from news to "American Idol" clones to soap
opera and slapstick comedey has sprung up and become
wildly popular.
With about 199 cable channels to choose from, I'm suprised
that nobody has created the "World TV Channel" featuring a
random selection of shows from europe, asia, the middle
east, Russia, India and such. If there are subtitles fine,
if not it's also fine.
Slightly dated shows could probably be got very cheaply.
2nd/3rd-world shows might be got for nothing at all.
Spicy German, Dutch or Italian shows would be a big draw
too. Censor nothing, add nothing, just give us the world
as the locals see it.
It is possible to get something like this on the net, but
if you could just flip to channel 200 on your television
and get similar fare ... I think it would be popular with
the average American and Canadian and also tend to draw
immigrants with a touch of homesickness for Czech or
Taiwanese or Indian shows.
