# On reflection, I suppose the core appeal of My Hero (to those who do like
it) is that, while a comedy, it's a romantic comedy - based on the very real
love between Janet and George, which enables them to survive their mixed
marriage against all odds.
Janet's parents, Ella and Stanley, too have some surviving mutual
affinity, after 40 years, but are mainly concerned with keeping up
appearances. Then there's Arnie and Mrs.Raven's scary relationship; and
Tyler's great love for all creatures, real or imaginary. Not forgetting
Dr.Crispin's love of himself - and aren't we all allowed to love ourselves
to some degree?
Janet (when George's return from heading a meteor into outer space is
problematic): "I'll always treasure every moment we had together." To which
George responds (in his own inimitable style): "And I'll treasure most of
the moments we had together; not those moments when you shouted at me, or
scolded me, because then, quite frankly, you were a bit of a pain, but all
those other moments...."
