Thats it... its almost impossible. I've basically been keeping as much of
this run-up to christmas free as I could, just in case I was called in for
the operation. Its been a nightmare trying to get my driving test scheduled
(finally got around to learning). Its really annoying, because there is a
lot of stuff coming up that I wanted to be involved with behind the scenes.

There is a difference between the surgical ward and the A&E ward (Accident &
Emergency, or rather ER in american speak). A&E wards are kept stocked with
everything to handle every eventuality (though some hospitals do have
specialities. My local is the best one for brain stuff, and they will
transport someone to our local once they've got them stablised, if they
think it'll increase their chances) The surgical wards really does depend
on what money the hospital has, how much demand for what operation there is,
all sorts of stuff.

LOL.. that'd be good. Sadly that scar is an X mark, because its sewed up
like a purse string, whilst the drain tube is still in me. When they remove
the tube, they just pull on the ends of the stitches and tie a neat little
knot, and voila its sealed up nicely.
