Flip,
I have enjoyed a great many of your public posts in the past. I think
you are a terrific person for the PUBLIC posts you have made.
In no way whatsoever did I mean to say, either directly or by
implication, that I want you to stop POSTING in this or any other group.
Please do not stop POSTING>
I am only asking that your posts be available for everyone if they are
posted in groups that many of us go.
Y-Not is right that something else is bothering me, but that doesn't
mean that I am not still bothered by private posts in public groups.
If you are saying, Flip, that you are still going to post public posts
in this group and in others where you have posted public posts before,
then I am relieved. And if you are saying that you will post private
posts in groups that are no longer in use by anyone but spammers, then I
applaud that.
What you may even do beyond that, to be extra specially conscientious,
would be to post a text message along with your private, password-locked
posts explaining that the post is intended only for one person and that
you are using that unused, unfrequented group to post it as a cheap
means (well, cheap for you, anyway) to anonymously send files. You
could also state in that text post that if anyone takes offense at your
use of that group for that purpose, you will choose another group for
the next post and then move on.
The thing is, you need to look at thing from the consumers' point of
view. They will want to know such things as "What is this post all
about? Why is it password protected? Will the password be posted? WAS
it posted already? etc..."

Well, I don't have the right to tell you what to do. I can only bitch
about is clearly enough for you to know what I'm bitching about until I
am certain you are either in agreement with me or not.
I like you, Flip. I just don't like private posts in public groups.
That's all I'm saying.
