My two-year-old external hard drive has died. Almost everything I've
downloaded from the groups over the past two years was on that drive.
Some of my faves were on that drive. (Oh, boo-hoo!) Is there any discreet
way to recover the data from a non-functioning drive, or should I just
get out the hammer and start whacking it to pieces?
Here's what Maxtor tech support had to say: "The problems you're having
with this drive indicate that the drive has failed and needs to be
replaced. If the drive has been owned for more than one year, it is out
of warranty, and I suggest purchasing another drive to replace this one."
It's kind of ironic: the primary reason for having an external hard drive
was to back-up my business files on my PC's hard drive, and the secondary
reason was to store files downloaded from the groups. I didn't really
give much thought about backing up those secondary files downloaded from
the groups that were only on the external hard drive. (The bright side of
this, is that I didn't lose any business files on my primary hard drive.)
I haven't been active in the groups the last few months, none-the-less,
any constructive advice or sympathy regarding my failed external hard
drive situation would be appreciated.
