MOSCOW - A fire has broken out in the bell tower of Moscow's
Novodevichy Convent, one of the Russian capital's most noted
visitor attractions.
Russian news reports said the blaze broke out late Sunday in
wooden scaffolding surrounding the tower as it undergoes
restoration. The Interfax news agency quoted Alexander Gavrilov,
the deputy head of the emergencies ministry for Moscow, as
saying the tower itself didn't suffer significant damage and the
fire's spread had been halted around midnight.
The octagonal tower, more than 70 meters tall, dates from the
late 1600s.
The convent, which sits above an oxbow turn in the Moscow River,
is noted both for its buildings and its cemetery, where many of
Russia's most celebrated figures are buried, including Soviet
leader Nikita Khrushchev and Russia's first president, Boris
Yeltsin.

A fire that raged for nearly two hours at one of Moscow's most
popular visitor attractions was brought under control on Sunday
night - but not before rumours online alleged that the Kremlin
was in flames.
However, with images of 16th century Russian architecture in
flames, with onion domes lit by burning embers, many on social
media reported that either the Kremlin itself was on fire or
that a church "near to the Kremlin" was in flames.

Is Russia a Block of Ice Floating Back Into the 16th Century?
Russia is like a block of ice floating back into the 16th
century," asserted controversial Russian novelist Vladimir
Sorokin in a BBC interview.
Sorokin went on to compare President Vladimir Putin to Tsar Ivan
the Terrible, who summarily and arbitrarily murdered hundreds of
thousands of his compatriots when he unleashed a bloody reign of
terror in the second half of the 1500s.
Sorokin argued: "Again we are living under a centralized
government, like in the time of Ivan the Terrible. This power
vertical, which Putin keeps talking about, is a completely
medieval model for Russia. There is no accountability, no
transparency."
The Putin-supported revival of the Russian Orthodox Church,
whose ceremonies and doctrine have changed little since the
Middle Ages, seems to confirm that Russian culture is actively
turning away from modern liberal values.
It even appears that the Kremlin has warmly embraced its
medieval past, particularly when it comes to matters of gender
and sexuality.
In his most recent presidential address to the federal assembly,
Putin noted that the world supports Russia's "defense of
traditional values" against the "so-called tolerance" that he
accused of being "genderless and infertile."
However vocally Russians denounce homosexuality, anyone familiar
with Russia's entertainment scene can promptly enumerate many
celebrity figures that purposefully cultivate sexually ambiguous
identities and have even become famous because of it.
Although it would be foolhardy to refute the fact that Russians
do, in fact, believe themselves to be virtuous, I do have to
point out that Russia remains -- as per Churchill's assessment --
a country of paradoxes.
I do not doubt that Russians would like to cultivate ideal
families and embody normative sexual identities, much like
Victorians and Puritans wished to remain above their carnal
desires.
Reality, however, bears little similarity to the ideal. Even as
they publicly embrace Putin's support for traditional values,
Russians' actions betray their true inclinations.
Western observers should be careful not to play into Putin's
hands by rehashing the tired propagandistic image of Russia as
the protector of global family values -- whatever these might
imply.

Have ever the Russians searched for their roots? This question
came into my mind when I read the reports of the case in a
Siberian court seeking a ban on Bhagawad Gita on the grounds
that it is an extremist- literature
I wish the day comes soon when Russians start digging their vast
stretches in Siberia and find out that their past goes upto
40,000 years backwards and they were more Vedik than anyone at
that time! I may sound absurd, but that is the inference from

Starting from the distant past, the entire Eurasian continent
was divided into 3 regions according to Mahabharatha.

"Sudharshana Dweepa" where the rule of Sanatan Dharma was in
place. It had Bharath in the South (rectangle area in the
bottom of this picture) with Hemakuta or Himalayas in its
northern limits, an intermediary Ilavarsha to the north of
Himalayas (noted in dark red square in the middle) and a vast
Airavatha varsha in extreme north of the Sudharshana dweepa.
Most of Russia is covered by Airavatha varsha.
Airavatha is the name of the elephant of Indra, the titular king
of the Devas.
The Deva territory is close to the North pole where there was
sunlight continuously for 6 months and darkness continuously for
6 months. The elephant, Airavatha in all probability was the
Woolly mammoth which became extinct about 10,000 years ago.

elephant died. The little ant said, "Only one night I enjoyed

grave." That joke passed the censorship, and I was now
officially approved to do a performance at the zoo.
Putin is trying to make these changes appear subtle. Just like
pharmaceutical companies in America do in their commercials.
They convince you that your life will be better if you take
their medication. Then they disguise the side effects with nice
music, happy people and images that distract you from the
severity of the situation.
A "Putin Extra Strength" commercial may sound like this: One
Putin a day makes you obey and keeps morticians away. It will
protect you from the evil empire, Kardashians and Honey Boo Boo.
But there are some minor side effects such as loss of friends
and family, relocation to cold places, severe stress, depression
and homelessness. If you experience loss of freedom for more
than a year, keep your mouth shut. Your doctor may prescribe you
to move to a different country. Tell your doctor to keep his

"general" to a remote control model army, navy and air force
created by scientist Professor Carter.
However, in part 2 it is revealed that he was under mind-control.

Jumbo became the star of the newly formed Barnum & Bailey's
Circus, traveling the country for four years and raking in huge
profits for the showmen.
On September 15, 1885 Jumbo's career came to a sudden end,
an unexpected freight train sped through the loading area.
Although the driver attempted to stop, it was to no avail and
engine met elephant in a collision that left Jumbo mortally
wounded and the train derailed.
Jumbo's longtime caretaker, known as Scotty, rushed to the dying
animal's side, where eyewitnesses reported that the elephant
wrapped his trunk around his trainer as he expired.
Not one to waste time, Barnum had Jumbo's remains sent off to be
prepped for taxidermy the very next day. A year later the
prepared remains - a stuffed skin and a separate articulated
skeleton - were debuted at a gala at which the guests were
allegedly served gelatin snacks made from Jumbo's tusks.
After a tour of duty on the road, Jumbo's stuffed remains came
to rest at Tufts University, where Jumbo quickly became a
beloved school mascot and a good luck symbol. Since the
devastating fire in 1975, Tufts athletes touch the 14 oz. peanut
butter jar that hold the remains of the great beast.

Jumbo
The bomb design to be used at Trinity Site actually involved two
explosions. First there would be a conventional explosion
involving the TNT and then, a fraction of a second later, the
nuclear explosion, if a chain reaction was maintained. The
scientists were sure the TNT would explode, but were initially
unsure of the plutonium. If the chain reaction failed to occur,
the TNT would blow the very rare and dangerous plutonium all
over the countryside.
Because of this possibility, Jumbo was designed and built.
Originally it was 25 feet long, 10 feet in diameter and weighed
214 tons. Scientists were planning to put the bomb in this huge
steel jug because it could contain the TNT explosion if the
chain reaction failed to materialize. This would prevent the
plutonium from being lost. If the explosion occurred as planned,
Jumbo would be vaporized.
Jumbo was brought to Pope, N.M., by rail and unloaded. A
specially built trailer with 64 wheels was used to move Jumbo
the 25 miles to Trinity Site.
As confidence in the plutonium bomb design grew it was decided
not to use Jumbo. Instead, it was placed in a steel tower about
800 yards from ground zero. The blast destroyed the tower, but
Jumbo survived intact.
Today Jumbo rests at the entrance to ground zero so all can see it
