The Grove Press edition is nice but the novel is a relatively tepid
work. Of the various versions Sade wrote of the novel, the last -- "La
Nouvelle Justine" -- sounds to be by far the most interesting, but I
don't believe it's been translated into English. I'd recommend
"Juliette," followed by "120 Days of Sodom." The Grove Press edition
of "Juliette" runs about 1200 pages, so beware of abridged versions
(especially one published in the 60s which claims to be
"unexpurgated," about as big a lie as I've ever seen on a book cover).
For a cheap copy, you could try Amazon or search something like
Abebooks.com, or just get it on interlibrary loan.
