But you're using Firefox to access Usenet Newsgroups via Google Groups'
horrible interface.
That's what Doc was eluding to.
Google Groups filters binaries [pictures] so you won't see them
regardless of what browser you use.
You're connected to the 'net via Bell Atlantic/Verizon in Pennsylvania,
one way or another.
I'd imagine they offer free, albeit limited, newsgroup service as part
of your plan.
You need to check with tech support or your member services page to get
the news server address. It should be something on the order of
news.east.verizon.net or such.
That's what you need to enter into your newsreader, which Firefox ain't.
Try Thunderbird in combination with XNews. That's my personal
preference. Although lately I'm using EasyNew's web interface more and
more due to its fantastic indexing & zip manager.
The best option, assuming you're a true fetishfreak, is to subscribe to
a monthly pay service such as EasyNews, SuperNews, GigaNews, etc.
Most have plans starting @ ~7.95/mo
hth.
