An excellent site is ArkivMusic.com. Their goal is to offer every
classical music CD in print. The organization of the site is very easy
to follow, going from general categories down to the specific CD you
are looking for. What also makes ArkivMusic.com so valuable is that
the site serves as a complete catalog of all classical music CDs
available.

JOIN THE CLUBS
Record stores and websites are not the only source for compact discs.
There are two major compact disc clubs:
Both offer money-saving introductory offers. BMG offers all types of
carefully selected great performances of classical and jazz. Each CD
club includes selections in its catalog from many CD producers besides
the main labels. Their advertised offerings, which you have probably
seen in magazines and the mail, are for several free recordings with
or without an initial minimum purchase.
After satisfying your initial agreement, the prices are at least as
good as what record stores normally charge, and sometimes far better,
provided you take advantage of promotions and music points (credits
towards free CDs). By the way, quite often the less often you order,
the better the promotions get, which are usually up to 3 free CDs with
the purchase of 1. Apparently, the CD clubs are accepting of customers
endlessly joining, quitting, and rejoining to take advantage of the
better prices in the initial agreement, although the period of time
wait long before an e-mail or postal mail arrives asking you to rejoin
with the same conditions as your previous membership. The CD clubs
used to mail printed catalogs, but have moved to all the CDs being
included in their online catalogs and asking customers to shop there.
This is a better arrangement for many reasons besides being
ecologically sound. Searching is much easier because you can enter
keywords such as the name of the composer, the performer(s), or the
type of music. Plus, you can listen to samples of music from each CD
and read more information about each recording than the printed
catalogs have. CD clubs always offer the Selection of the Month, which
you get automatically if you do not respond by the due date. By
purchasing the Selection of the Month, you also accumulate credit
points towards free CDs and/or your choice of one or more CDs with
your order.
