ty and Femininity) appeared as the peak elevation in 16%, and Scale 9 (Hypo
mania) was included as a peak code in 13% of the profiles. Sixty-six percen
t of the 19 Scale 9 elevations included a 4-5 or 5-4 combination.
13% RULE OUT : Thirteen percent of the biological fathers had 4-3 profiles,
while a 4-7/7-4 profile was most common with incestuous stepfathers.
45% RULE OUT : Scale 4 was elevated by 45% of the 20 subjects of the Nonadm
itter group, while Scale 3 was elevated by 35% of the subjects. Scales 4 (P
sychopathic Deviate) and 8 (Schizophrenia) were most frequently elevated by
- the control group. Scales 4 was included in 35% of the control group, as
was Scale 8. The Admitter and Nonadmitter groups elevated Scale 4 (Psychopa
thic Deviate) highest and most frequently when comparing group means and hi
gh-point pairs. Fifty-five percent of the Admitter group, 45% of the contro

may not elevate the clinical scales of the MMPI, again indicating the MMPI

This study shows that Nonadmitting (alleged) perpetrators do not elevate va
lidity or clinical scales of
the MMPI above 70T. Since these findings are inconsistent with past studies
, they appear to further substantiate the theory that sexual perpetrators a
re a heterogeneous group. Any attempts to identify sexual perpetrators sole
ly on the basis of the MMPI profile appear useless. Although group differen
ces have been noted, on a clinical level those differences are of limited v
alue and therefore, provide no information on a case by case basis. The MMP
I is not an appropriate tool to differentiate a unique profile for men who
sexually abuse children.

Liars showed a significant increase in prefrontal white matter and slightly

(grey/white) repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) using the multi
variate procedure showed no main effect for group (F(2,46)=0.729, P=0.4
88) but a significant group × grey/white interaction (F(2,46)=9.049,
P=0.0001, η 2=0.282). To break down this interaction, separate an
alyses were run for grey and white matter using a Bonferroni correction (
α=0.017) for pairwise comparisons. Liars had significantly greater p
refrontal white matter volume than both antisocial controls (t=3.1, d.f.
=26,P=0.004) and normal controls (t 2.7, d.f.=31, P 0.01). Liars had
a 25.7% increase (13.3 cm3) in prefrontal white matter compared with antiso
cial controls and a 22.2% increase (11.8 cm3) compared with normal controls
(Fig. 1). For grey matter, liars had non-significantly reduced volumes com
pared with normal controls (t=2.1, d.f.=31, P=0.04) but not compared
with antisocial controls (t=0.79, d.f.=26, P=0.43; Fig. 1). Liars had
a 14.2% decrease (10.5 cm3) in prefrontal grey matter compared with normal
controls. No group × hemisphere interaction for grey/white volumes wa
s found (F(2,46) 0.848, P>0.43). Antisocial control and normal control grou
ps did not differ from each other in either grey (t=0.39, d.f.=35, P=
0.23) or white matter volumes (t 0.39, d.f.=35, P=0.69).
Correction for whole brain volumes
It could be argued that group differences in prefrontal volume were an arte
fact of group differences in whole brain volume. Consequently, the above an
alyses on prefrontal grey and white matter were repeated using whole-brain
corrected volumes. The same results were found. A repeated-measures ANOVA s
howed no main effect for group (F(2,46)=0.971, P=0.386) and no group
