Hi Steve...
It was a procedural vote on the Federal [denial of
same sex] Marriage Amendment in the US Senate.
They needed 67 votes to move forward. Even a
simple majority [51] votes would have saved Bush
some political face. He didn't even get that. LOL
Thankfully, they are nowhere near close to passing this
discriminatory piece of legislation in the US Senate.
The next fight comes in about two weeks when the
US House of Representatives considers a similar bit
of legislation that [also] attempts to circumvent the
historic rights of the States to define marriage.
Both documents are/were fundamentally flawed
in that they attempt to circumvent the
"full faith + disclosure" clause of the Constitution
which basically states that a law passed in one
state will be honored in every other state. Were
the Supreme Court to uphold the ability to negate
this very basic tenet of the Constitution, it would
open up the doors to hundreds if not thousands of
challenges to any host of laws passed in one state
from being honored in another.
Thankfully, the 'funda-nazis' have an uphill battle
against them to pass this hateful legislation...
