This is mainly thanks to the Batman TV show. By comparison, Superman's
TV shows and movies have only made sporadic use of his comic book
villains.

It's all about mass media exposure. Batman and Superman have been the
most successful in TV and movies, and are therefore the most beloved
and well known.
