 It's difficult to tell exactly from this context, but it typically means
 another with whom one associates, for the purposes of business.
 
 "Hell, my name is Misc, this is my partner Tom, and Sally & Fred, over
 here, are business associates."  This could mean that they contract for
 us, that they are customers, or that we just talk to them about our
 business and they give us advice -- but the implication is that they're
 a sort of "friend of my business", as differentiated from personal
 friends, which they may or may not also be.
 
 That's a very casual, off the cuff answer, btw.  I'm sure someone else
 will let us know if there's a more relevant and formal answer.
