I would have thought Japanese women would marry outside more then the
American Japanese men, but that wasn't the case in '95. That stat could
have changed. I don't know where you would find that information, since
this was a History of Minorities in California course, and that information
was in a text book. I'm sure if you look for this information, you might
find it in Asian American Sociology.
At the time, it was the Japanese men who married outside their race more.
And of all Asian groups in the US, the Japanese American was number one in
this stat.
Japan isn't the only nation with low birthrates. Europe is running into
this as well. Basically it seems that most 1st world nations (modern
nations) are having less kids because the women are now working more, having
their own careers, and since the married couple wants more crap (big house,
nice clothes, nice car, etc) they cannot afford to have a large family. I
think some European nations are offering incentives to their women as well,
so as to keep the race alive..Unfortunately, a little monetary incentive
can't derail a woman's motivation for success, power, and equality in the
workplace. They saw how their mothers were treated, how hard they worked at
home, and decided "I don't want to live that way". I'm sure there are other
reasons, but at the same time, some diseases that men only had (high rate of
heart attacks, high blood pressure, other stress related illnesses) have
started to rise for women as they enter the workplace.
This class I took was pretty interesting, but I took a few other sociology
and cultural anthropology classes as well. Read up on those two subjects
and you will learn a lot about the evolution of men and our cultures.
