This site contains the latest news on this awful law. It has
a form you can fill out to identify your Senators and with
the click of a button you can then send them a prepared form
email opposing this Bill. The email you will be sending
says:
"Subject: Freedom and Privacy for Internet Users
Dear [Lawmaker]:
As an American, I view my freedom to participate in harmless
recreational activities a right as fundamental as freedom of
speech. Legislation pending before the Senate to ban placing
bets or wagers on the Internet - even from my own home - is
currently threatening this right. The bill, S. 627, the
so-called the Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition
Act, is a clear invasion of my privacy.
S. 627 would force credit card companies to monitor my
transactions to determine whether I was placing a bet online
and block that transaction. As a consenting adult, I don't
think Congress needs to spy on my financial activities to
keep me from "harming" myself.
I urge you and your colleagues to help stop this effort to
restrict my freedom and privacy. Please oppose S. 627.
Sincerely,"
