Benevolence would urge one to put aside past mistakes and treat each
situation on its own merits. However, the nature of people is to
associate based on experience: A dog bit me - dogs bite; Winona stole
something = Winona steals.

We weren't there. We don't know. We can only speculate or hope.

Someone said 'The truth will out.' I don't know who. I don't believe it.
Truth, in the nature of the legal system, becomes truth when a jury says
it is so. Guilty means that it was done. There, the truth is out.

Ten years later, new evidence, another suspect. Suddenly what once was
truth is now simply a mistake. 'The best we could do at the time, given
the evidence,' or something similar. Suddenly the solid and unshakeable
truth is now an error of judgement, a mistake, a few years of some
innocent person's life.

So will the truth 'out'? Is today's truth tomorrow's apology?
