I just realized today that CNN got rid of it's science & technology unit
and canned Miles O'Brien.
I saw John Zarrella (CNN's Miami bureau chief) reporting on CNN's HLN,
formerly Headline News, and I wondered what happened to Miles O'Brien?
He usually reports space news on CNN!
So I went online and found out what happened back in December! I guess
it didn't make the news, so I didn't hear about it, but u can read about

Miles O'Brien has an online blog now and he published a speech he gave
at NASA's JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) in January. It's interesting
reading especially near the end where he comments on the state of the
news media, especially TV news:

Now here's my commentary on the US cable TV news networks:
SHEESH! CNN & Headline news have really gone downhill! They are so much
less news than they used to be and more crappy talk shows and talking
heads with people shouting at each other. They have become just lke the
dreck on MSNBC and the FOX News Channel! Ewwwwww!
I have trouble finding stuff to watch on TV lately, I used to like news
with correspondents from all around the world with more in-depth
reporting. Now the "news" shows are mainly there to report on
controversies or celebrities or car chases or disasters, and to have
people pontificating about their own political views or concentrating on
fluff or obsessed with finding the latest missing little white girl in
Florida!
With all the increased air time with 4 24-hour news channels, most of
what they have on the air is GARBAGE and not much news! They gloss over
the issues and concentrate more on personalities and the biggest
windbags get the spotlight!
Now I have to tune into BBC America to get the world news! SHEESH!
And local news with all their coverage of fear fear fear and fire,
accidents, rape, and murder have actually become better and more
interesting than the national cable TV news channels! LOL
I would like to see a news channel with correspondents reporting on
various news stories around the US and throughout the world with real
emphasis on news events and less fascination with celebrities,
controversies, and pontificating blowhards!
