1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 34 in this story, in the Winter of 2060-2061.

you, until you choose where your school should be, and what it should
look like." Etan grinned, and said, "THIS is a house? There MIGHT be
bigger palaces, somewhere!" More grins. We wandered around in it. They
loved it. Etan, the leader, said, "Your usual protections for this
island?" I said, "Yes. Can't be seen from off of it, and nobody wants
to look at it, anyway. Only way to it is by porting, so you need a
building somewhere else to serve is a fake school and porting terminal.
Rang's school is secret from his whole world. Here, some people will
know it exists." Nods. I said, "So, what would you like? Just think,
and I'll see it. No, not shaped like naked people!" Laughter. I said,
"None of you are thinking big enough. Going to be hundreds here. That's
better. Here it is."
They had a lot of wows to offer, as we toured the school. They were
surprised by the hall of stones. I said, "That always happens." More
touring, and I said, "Here's the crystal library. Yes, for all known
worlds in this galaxy." For each wow they uttered, I made a ball of
light come from their mouths, and chase each other around the room.
They went almost hysterical with laughter. I said, "That worked." More
laughter.
I said, "Now you have to recruit your students. There's a little
problem with that. Who's going to send their kids to er, kids?" One
said, "We can use disguises!" I said, "Your students might be able to
penetrate them, and so not trust you." One said, "You have to do it!" I
said, "Yes, in the beginning. But you all have to monitor, so you will
know how to do it yourselves. First, we go to the Institute. Eten,
you're known there, so, you're with me as you are. Taller now, though."
Grins.
We ported to the President's office, by appointment. I said, "The
appointment wasn't there yesterday." He grinned, and said, "Be welcome,
Solomon and Etan!" We grinned and bowed. We sat, and Etan said, "We're
ready to accept new students to our school. Yes, we actually have one
here. Sol made it. No, you can't find it. No, I'm not reading your
mind. I would think those things." Chuckles. Pres said, "From our
world?" He said, "Unfortunately not. About one in a billion can
qualify. We don't have half that many people here. Telling them to have
more sex wouldn't help. They already do it as much as they can."
Chuckles. He said, "No, I haven't done it. We don't go all the way
until we're adults. Doesn't stop us from practicing a lot, though."
Grins. I said, "Feeling each other's feelings, causes resonances such
that physical needs demand to be satisfied in the group, or they are
too distracting. We call it body and social maintenance. Or sexplay.
It's not something we need to teach. It's how we have to live, because
of who we are." He nodded, and said, "I expected that. We set up a
study group for investigating such a group's dynamics."
I said, "Next year they should be ready to start assisting in your
Institute with our tech, for high intelligence students. Average
students can still use our tech for some things, but they won't be able
to benefit from them much. There is a safety system. If it would
overload them, it won't work for them." He said, "We're overrun with
spies. They'll try to steal it." Etan grinned. Pres said, "I'm guessing
that won't work." Etan said, "And it will allow us to determine who the
most effective thieves are, so we can deport them." I said, "As the
host, you need to know some things about their abilities. They can
teleport to practically any place in the galaxy. They can do that to
objects, too, and mass is not a concern. Yes, even planets. They also
don't have to port ALL of an object." He said, "Oh!" I said, "They can
see and hear anything they want to, practically everywhere in the
galaxy, inside and outside. Yes, they can see your heart beating. They
can sense things down to individual atoms, which they can also port.
They can use multiple independent mind partitions, to engage in
multiple simultaneous operations, including with their special
abilities, which they can also use remotely. They can program their
mind partitions to act like computers, so using their abilities, they
can 'print' complicated objects in seconds. I built their gigantic
school and sports complex in less than a minute." Etan said, "Much
less, and we were in it at the time. Wow!" Grins.
Pres said, "You didn't mention telepathy." I said, "All of us have
some minimal ability in that, but full telepathy is very rare among us.
But sensing emotions, completely understanding body language, sensing
neural impulses, and expert knowledge of psychology, does inform us of
a lot of what people are thinking. All our graduates have doctorates in
psychology, education, math, and physics, as a basic requirement. Most
have more." He said, "You only take students as young children." I
said, "To be able to use our high level abilities, one must be clear of
mind. Most adults can't achieve that. And mind partitioning requires
such mental flexibility, that only young brains can learn to do that
usefully. Still, we have had some very rare adult students. We might
have one on this world." Etan said, "Who!" I said, "One of the spies.
You get close enough to her for her to sense you, she's going to go
fully psionic, and she's highly intelligent, too." He said, "Push
please." I did. I said to the press, "We can transfer knowledge mind to
mind. That's what prompted the use of the crystals. Storage of that for
later." He said, "You really did have to form your own unique society!"
I said with a smile, "We prefer our friends to tell us things we don't
already know." Grins and chuckles.
He said, "You left here in a strange transformative way. Is that what
teleporting looks like?" I said, "No. Vanishing and appearing, is how
it looks. High speed imaging shows the use of another dimension is
involved. Think tesseracts." He nodded. I said, "For some desired
effect, some illusion, or other manipulation, can be used to enhance
the look of the porting. Theatrics can be useful in primitive
societies, and disguising it in high tech societies helps keep
seriously puzzled scientists from making useless fools of themselves."
Grins. I said, "I didn't leave you by porting. I work directly with
reality, which is a lot less real to me, than it is to you. No, nobody
else can do it. I was made so, for the purpose of using different
forms, and other things. Yes, you can say it." He said, "Wow!" Nods,
and grins from us. I changed into another humanoid form, and then back.
I said, "That wasn't an illusion." Etan said, "Your atoms individually
moved around, and this part of the world didn't blow up!" I said, "I
think we noticed that last part." Pres said, "I know what he means.
Breaking and forming different molecular bonds in such a scale, and so
fast, without energetic disruptions, is impossible!" I said, "It
actually is impossible in your reality, but not in MY personal reality,
which I create as I desire."
I said, "But all that isn't helpful in this situation. You require
martial arts training for your students. We like that. We do it, too.
Better, though. Our graduates are experts, and those who want to do
more, are full Masters of Ki." Etan said, "Want one of is here for
that, we're available now." President looked hungry. We grinned. He
said, "You're so competent in more than I thought possible." I said,
"We train the whole person, intensely. Done scientifically, to those
who can accept it, produces people who have achieved the full potential
that's possible for their species at that time. We don't play around.
We take the best, and make the best of them. We mean business!" Another
"Wow!" I said, "Included." Etan grinned.
I said, "All that's what we can do, and actually do, not who we are.
Being clear of mind means we can't lie, and we can't act unjustly, and
we can't kill. We're also practical enough not to trust that. Brain
injuries are always possible. So, we monitor each other on the job,
usually with mental connect and remote perceptions, and sometimes
recorded for the record. In work, our primary mission is to protect
people from us, and others like us, because the people are not able to
recognize what can be done to them undetectably by psionic people. That
comes from why we exist, which is to aid in the advancement of sentient
life. In support of that, we do NOT allow interstellar war. Usually we
work in secret. I think you know why." He said, "I do, but there are
secrets, and secrets." I said, "Identities are secret unless revealed
by choice. We don't interfere with societies beyond our mission, but if
we were known, they would positively know we do that, because that's
what they would be doing." He said, "Yes, I did understand that."
He said, "Who else knows about you or your group, in this galaxy?" I
said, "Other than parents of our students?" He said, "Oh. I should have
considered that. Others?" I said, "Just out of curiosity, did you
expect us to tell you?" He laughed, and said, "I hoped." I said, "I'm
disappointed in you. You should know one of them. That he didn't have
that the visit was so unexpected!" I said, "Wasn't part of that, the
danger to him and the Empire of what could have happened there in his
absence?" He said, "That was our analysis. We never did understand
fully why he came." I said, "I told him to, and why. You DO want them
to support your education of their people, don't you?" He said, "Yes we
do!" I said, "I told them to join you is better than to oppose you.
Educate his people, he owns them. And he thinks, you." He grinned. I
said, "He was an educator, but he may never understand the people you
create, that he can never control. Nobody can, and that's the goal. He
just can't conceive that anybody who could do that, which he believes
is impossible, would want to do such a foolish, to his mind, thing."
He grinned very widely, and said, "You DO understand us." I said,
"We've lived it. My great grandfather's school was started as a
government experiment to create super spies. He was the first there who
became a psionic Adept, and took it over. It had been about to be
declared a failure. The first graduates wouldn't work for the
government. What genius would?" Grins. I said, "Most worlds that have
Adepts that work in secret to protect their worlds, and advance the
evolution of their species, call themselves Guardians, or Secret
Guardians. We feel the word secret is redundant." Chuckles. I said,
"The only ones who can port, are those we teach, because most Guardians
become so as adults, until we find them, and most of them are er, not
all that useful." Grins.
I said, "You might be concerned that our people are vulnerable. They
can't be killed unless they allow it. Their personal shields can react
faster than a projectile, and they sense intent long before that. The
shield can also be used as a space suit, so not even poison gas will
work on them. We have a lot of work invested in our students. We don't
intend to waste any of it!" He said, "I can well believe it!" I said,
"But you want a martial arts demonstration." He said, "I have to admit
I do. I'm one of the best here." I said, "In teaching that, and in
competition, we use only martial arts, and not any special abilities.
And not Ki, unless we're teaching that. We can SEE Ki, so we have a big
advantage in that. Very helpful in teaching, though." He said, "That,
we HAVE to have." Etan said, "You can have one of us, our age, but the
biggest of us. He'll look a little older than he is to non psionic
people, in his disguise. So, to the gym?" We went.
On the way, I said, "For Senior Masters, we have a style transfer
service. Yes, learn a whole style in an instant. Few who are not Adepts
can take that. For Adepts of our schools, they can take ALL of them at
once." He stopped and stared at me, and tried to say wow, and couldn't.
I said, "No, you can't eat them." He laughed loudly in reaction. He
went to change in the locker room. Other people there greeted Etan as a
long lost friend. He grinned a lot. Then he introduced me as one of his
teachers. Then one asked what I teach. Then they noticed Etan's big
grin at that. I said to them, "You want to know why he's grinning like
that. If you could put a teacher in an awkward spot, wouldn't you grin
like that?" Chuckles. I said, "I teach a lot of things, but what I'm
most known for in my students, what they show most of, from my
teaching, is helping them to become good people." Etan nodded, and
said, "I didn't expect that, but I have to agree. Of all he does,
that's what we learn from him the most, and that's by example, too." I
said, "The only responsible way to teach."
I said, "Speaking about that, did you expect ME to demonstrate here?"
He said, "Oh! But I'm much smaller." I said, "Look at me. Who isn't?"
Laughter. Pres caught that, and laughed with him. He said, "How strong
are you?" I said, "I am as strong as it's possible for me to become.
That weight bar there. Can you lift it with those two weights on it?"
He said, "Not at all. You can." I said, "Yes. Put them on, and we'll
see." They did, and I lifted it easily. I said, "That's just a circus
event. We're here to do something with martial arts. Etan is, actually.
No, he's not my student in that, but his teacher is." Etan said, "You
taught him everything!" I looked askance at him, and he said, "Oops. He
already knew how to speak." Chuckles.
Pres said, "I can't fight him!" I said, "Right. He'd beat you." He
looked strange. I said to Etan, "Does it show that I love to do that?"
He said, "It does now!" Chuckles. I picked up a weight disk, and held
it above my head. I said to Etan, "Kick of your choice, into that wall.
Better you don't use me." He nodded, and said, "Clear the area." He did
a high jump side thrust kick, and the metal disk actually stuck in the
wall 3m away. He landed in a firm plant, not touching me. I said,
"Students. Applied physics lesson. You know the mass of the target. You
know the distance. How much force was needed to make it just hit the
wall? Then estimate how much more it would take to embed it in it. Note
that Etan didn't do any follow through. It was all impact that imparted
the energy." A lot of them were staring off into space, mumbling. Pres
was trying not to grin, and the other staff were in the same situation.
I said, "And there was a possible complication. If he hadn't struck
it just right, it would have rotated into his leg, and broken it badly.
So, it required not just technique perfectly controlled, but precision
of aim, and that properly calculated. Martial arts is not just of the
body, but of the whole person, including the mind." Even the staff had
to say wow. I said, "One more thing. We didn't plan any of this in
advance, or here. It was all his choice of how to proceed. I'm proud of
him for all aspects of that, including his courage. And I like that
he's embarrassed." Chuckles and awe.
Pres said, "How did you know he was capable of that, not being his
teacher?" I said, "I taught his teacher, who actually doesn't care much
for martial arts, as I don't. But we have standards. His level was
reported to me, so I knew. Being the best, I could see it in him. You
know about that." He said, "I do. But you don't care for it?" I said,
"Correct. My father was the best, and loved it. I didn't like even the
idea of hurting anybody. I still don't, but duty required I learn, so I
did, but just to beginning expert level. Then he died. On an undercover
mission, I discovered I needed to know more. So I learned all that was
available. When I learn something, I learn it all!" He grinned, and
said, "I think I believe that." Chuckles. I said, "Being a teacher, I
couldn't know all that, and keep it to myself." Big grins and nods. I
said, "And I love my students. I couldn't accept that they could be
hurt, knowing I could help prevent that." Nods. I said, "And so here we
are." One said, "Can you strike with Ki?" I said, "Yes. All of my
senior students can. Not much need for that, though. Demolishing
innocent buildings is wasteful." Grins.
One said, "It's been said that those experts can heal with Ki. Is it
true?" I said, "In a limited way, yes, it's true. Better if other
energy is available for the expert to use, or he could die in the
attempt. You need the energy of Ki to live. Expend too much, you die.
Very inconvenient in the middle of an action." Odd looks. Etan said,
"People aren't used to your odd way of speaking." I said, "Good. I like
that. Makes them think." Pres said, "And I like THAT!" Nods.
I said to the pres, "I understand why you don't want to fight with
Etan. You haven't practiced with people so different in size. So, you
may attack me. I won't strike you, But you won't be able to strike me,
either. Fall down, yes. A lot." Grins, and that's what happened. I used
aikido. We stopped, and I said, "That style evolved from the use of a
two handed sword, by a very strange mystical person who had such
advanced balance, he was actually unable to sit in a chair." He said,
"Wow!" I said, "No one dared to say that in his presence. A very
regimented society he lived in. He died before I was born. We wouldn't
have liked each other." Grins and nods. Etan laughed hard. When he
could, he said, "No more informal person exists than Solomon! He treats
rulers of Empires as equals, and they're flattered by that." I said,
"How did you know that?" He said, "We all talk about you." I said,
"Students!" Grins and chuckles. President went back to change. I said
to the students, "The best use of Ki, is in defense. Etan, kick to my
chest." He did and I didn't move at all, and he obviously used a lot of
force. I said, "Staff to my throat." He did that, and it bounced.
I said, "You know something of my strength. Ki can be used to enhance
that. Etan, arms out to the side and stabilized. Body rigid but not
anchored." He nodded, and assumed the position. I picked him up by one
arm, and waved him around like a flag. Their mouths were all hanging
open in surprise. I put him down, and he relaxed, and waved his arms
around normally, and grinned. I said, "He used Ki to make his body
rigid." He said, "He could have broken a staff over my arm, but he
doesn't like to break things, and what we did was a lot more fun. No, I
had no idea what he was going to do. I never heard of that being done
before. I'm sure not ever going to forget it!" Chuckles. He said. "Sol,
you know who else is going to want to do that with you." I said, "You
don't have to tell me that! Who doesn't think they're planning an
ambush?" He grinned. I said, "Good thing you can't tell the rest of
Rang's school." He said, darkly, "For YOU." I grinned.
We went back to the pres' office. I said to him, "You're not ready
for the style transfer. Soon, though, with the assistance of the
teacher we'll send you." He said, "I can choose?" I said, "When you're
ready, you'll have a catalog. Active crystal." He said, "Oh! Thank you.
Your teachers will be available to teach other subjects?" I said, "No,
but they will teach your teachers in the use of our tech, for their
teaching, such as personal computers that you operate with the mind.
Geniuses can learn and create faster than a mechanical interface can
transmit it to a computer. We've fixed that. We have mentally directed
crystals that can project things actively in three dimensions, and
applied to the head, they cause instant memorization. Teachers are
needed to guide them in using the knowledge creatively." He said, "I
can see where that would significantly speed up education. And yes, I
see the problem with that. Memorization isn't learning." I said,
"Exactly. The whole person concept. This works. You'll see." He said,
"I believe you. We're going to need more space." Grins.
I said, "Second year, when the new offplanet students come back, you
can charge their parents practically anything, and they'll pay." He
laughed. I said, "But there will be problems. How many crystals they
can take, and how often, is based on mental skills and intelligence.
The loudest of them will know they have the most, who actually have the
least. You need to be selective in who you allow into the full program,
and explain to them that it's determined by the tech, not by the staff.
Really bothersome parents can have a visit by a Guardian. They won't
ever forget it, but they might not be able to talk about it. Oh, I see.
A master of Ki can lay a compulsion on a person they can't reject. But
for us, only in fair justice. An Adept can make it permanent."
I said, "We have one more unbelievable thing to discuss." Grins. I
said, "That healing that was mentioned. Our people can do that for
entire worlds at once. I know that's hard to believe, but there's even
more. It's not them who will be doing that healing, which includes
repairing brains and replacing lost body parts. They'll just be linking
all the minds. God does the healing. You can feel when He enters the
link. That's who we work for. We have to decide if we are to do that,
and if so, which planets, and what do we tell them about it? That's
because it needs to be scheduled. It lasts for some minutes, and it
causes people to be very distracted. We don't want people to die in
crashes then, and not just because all in the link would feel it. And
the people who are doing it, need to be unknown. I usually get it
started, because I can be known, and I don't stay. Not so they can find
me. I don't actually need a body to be wherever I need to be."
Etan said, "You really shocked him this time." I said, "Yes, isn't
that great?" They both laughed. He said, "I'll have time to think about
this?" I said, "Yes. Don't be concerned about forgetting anything I
say. People can't." Eten was surprised, and said, I didn't know that!"
I said, "Same here, until recently. Who would want to?" He said, "Oh.
Yes. They wouldn't know to report it, so you might not know, even
though you know all. I think I just confused myself." I chuckled, and
said, "I do know the feeling. I discovered it recently. I didn't know I
was causing it. I'm not complaining, though." He said, "God's upgrade
on the sly?" I said, "Probably. He's done it before. A lot, actually.
Multiple bodies ability came in an information package of time
equations he gave me in a mind contact. I had no idea that reading that
would do that to me. BIG surprise. He could have warned me, but I'm not
the only one who likes to surprise people." He said, "He's a lot like
you." I said, "I think it's the other way around." He said, "Oops,
right. He WANTS you to be like Him." I said, "He's said that. Annoying
that my teacher is so like me with my students. Oh, you love that,
don't you!" He grinned, and said, "Oh yes we DO!" I growled, and he
laughed. We hugged.
I said to Etan, "I think we both did it to him, this time. We'd
better leave while he's still sane. Or is he?" Pres laughed. He said,
"One more question. Do you have a title?" I said, "A great many. Some
are even polite." Chuckles. I said, "Before I came to know all, I had
all kinds of recognition for my scholarship. I am also clergy in many
religions. I'm a Senior Master Instructor of Martial Arts. I'm a
psionic Master Adept. I am the Master Senior Guardian for all galaxies
and all dimensions, and the God appointed Senior Agent and Prophet of
Him, for all of that, which he has embarrassingly announced in some
world and localized broadcasts." Etan was grinning and nodding. Pres
said, "Emperors being flattered, is more understandable now." I said to
Etan, "Bigmouth!" He laughed. I said, "The problem is which title do I
use for which situation, and would any of them be believed? So I use
none. In a media broadcast I arranged between government and religious
rulers, we were asked who had the highest status, because that was
usually denoted by the hight of the chairs. Mine was of regular hight.
The others were all higher, but equal. The leader of the host country,
who was also the leader of that religion, said the guests were equal
for the purposes of the meeting, but that I sit wherever I want." Pres
said with a smile, "I see. You're above status." I said, "With those
who want to think that way. For me, all are equal in love."
I stood and hugged him, and then Etan did. He said, "Your student for
sure! Wow!" We bowed, and ported to the school. We were squished in big
hugs full of love. It wasn't bad.
