All of these groups started dying over a decade ago. It started when people
started password protecting their posts and instead of posters freely
sharing their work for all, it became a private club of sorts (the airplane
propulsion group comes to mind). Some kind souls tried to continue sharing
the "new" way and would post the keys to their posts in one group and do the
actual posting in another with the simple rule that neither group was
mentioned in the other nor in any other group. Well, as we all know, many
people cannot either follow rules nor directions and got frustrated and
started bitching in those and other newsgroups. Insults, accusations and
outright blackmail ensued. The result? The posters fled to P2P, TOR and
various other venues.
On another note, it seems a popular photo sharing site has become a mirror
of what has been happening in the groups. Instead of posters sharing openly
it's become a vast wasteland of reposts that everyone has seen thousands of
times, cropped and censored pictures and thousands of Pass for Pass B.S.
albums. Or they want you to go to a website to get the pass (big security
risk!). One idiot even lists a phone number call to get the pass! (Yeah,
right, officer!). The result has been constant "album has been taken down
for inspection" notices (of pictures that were nothing more than simple
nudity or even less!), even more cropped or censored pictures, banned users
and now a complete blockage of the listing of new users that have signed up
in the past day.
It's enough to shut your computer off and dig up those forgotten VHS tapes!
