Without the monarchy, there is no England.
I must nevertheless agree with you regarding sins of the past. I
would tell you that the recent expeditions into Iraq by our lads was
the product of not the Queen but of her Prime Minister [now by the by
being feted in the Colonies]. I see the Windsors now as upholding a
regal symbol of duty to country, dedication to the people, and a love
of justice and compassion.
One cannot say as much for a radically egalitarian regimes such as the
one that executed its own monarch and his entire family in a dank
basement, then proceeded to obliterate millions, including children,
in the name of the people's soviet. Conceived as the antithesis of
the monarchy, the oligarchy and bourgeouis classes, its pledge for
universal equality spawned a catastrophe than never truly expired
until Perestroika.
Not even the best intentions can mollify the evil residing in some
men's hearts ... how so we do see that today!
I do fret over the direction once our dear Queen has gone beyond the
veil, but hold out hope that England will yet be represented by the
Monarchy in the world court of opinion and esteem.
And, yes, it is worth a quid or two to support the old gal.
