Dear Clive,
A very relevant and well-said comment! To execute Nicolas was one
thing abhorrant but not uncommon ... but his entire family ... all for
the expediencey of politik. Thus did Stalin and a host of other
"great leaders" of revolutions and philosophy.
Although I may dislike, indeed detest, an individual, I celebrate the
destruction of no man, for but grace there go I and ... in the end ...
go us all.
But there can never, never be a valid justification of the "greater
good" through slaughter. As history has repeatedly shown us blind
fools, any such greater good thus acquired is doomed to drown in the
very blood and tears it has shed.
