Yes - Sir Gawain carried a shield with a Pentacle on it for just that reason
(in some of the versions of the Arthurian legends).
"Generic" bird images carry so many meanings it'd be hard to figure it
out. However, the juxtaposition of pentacle/star of David lend credence to
the idea that the larger amulet is Judeo/Christian and is used to ask G*d to
guard over the wearer.
My understanding of Mandelas is that they are views of the Cosmos, with
Nirvana (in the form of the freeing Buddha or his symbol) at the center -
which again, would bring the wearer a talisman of peace and unity under
benign Deity.
