But why would they want to? If you, being heterosexual, were attractive to
your gay male friends, you'd still have no interest in having a sexual
relationship with them, would you?

The dynamics of prison sexuality are quite complicated, actually. You get an
entire hierarchy based around "traditional" gender roles (housewives, sluts,
domineering husbands, protective brothers and so on) but imposed on an
all-male population. And in many cases the roles adopted are abandoned as
soon as they leave prison, and then reverted to when they return.

That ought to apply to any social group where there is a higher ratio of men
to women, though. And it still doesn't account for the vast number of gays
who have plenty of potential opposite-sex partners, and aren't in the least
interested.
