 Well spotted, Jani..   I haven't seen an example of the smaller one
 either, but I've got a vague feeling that I've recently seen something
 similar. I may remember eventually. :-)
 However, there's a lot of artistic license in the making of such
 amulets.
 The centre section reminds me of a cross pommee and crosses with circles
 on the ends were common on Jewish amulets.  They were also found on
 Assyrian monuments and are thought to represent the four main solar
 positions in the year.
 Assuming it may be Jewish in origin, the seven dots in the centre could
 hold a similar meaning to the Menorah.  I guess there's no need to
 discuss the surrounding circle.
