You have no idea how close you have come to a truth.  BTW, HP
draws upon a lot of ideas that are bedrock in British myth and
culture, and which are unfamiliar to you.  So mock that stuff all
you will, but something that you don't understand is paraded
before you in a kids book, that people on the other side of the
Atlantic not only do understand, but find comfortably familiar.
