Hmmmm...you are postulating the ability to write but not read? This
reminds me of the answer I got from a friend who was an exchange
professor in Poland, before Solidarity really got moving. I asked Mike
if Poles told American jokes.
Answering in the negative, he said they told security police jokes.
Since the security police were not very popular, they tended to go out
on the town in groups.
One group of three was working their way through bars that would accept
them. The first wore one bronze stripe, the second two silver stripes,
and the third three gold stripes with a wreathed star. And what did
these mean?
One stripe meant the policeman could read.
Two meant he could write.
And three, with elaborate flourishes? He was there to keep an eye on
the two intellectuals.
