Dumb is a bit harsh. A charitable excuse would be he has his finger in
too many pies, it's easy to forget the details.
I actually wonder if it was ever a serious law suit and that could also
explain why Jason would forget the details. There are two reason for
this thought. Firstly, if Jason was serious he would have filed in the
Colorado court system, as required. Secondly, he would have shown up
at court to make his case.
The way it worked out Gastrich used minimal effort and minimal cost to
force Durago Bill to defend himself. Presumably this cost Bill time
and money, that in itself might have been the whole goal.
The fall out of this is that Gastrich has now created a 'monster' who
will document him on a web site with zeal, whereas, if he had ignored
Bill the web site would probably have been forgotten. This would seem
like poor long term planning just for the short term gratification of
seeing Bill squirm a bit.
Again, Jason Gastrich will reap the rewards of his decisions.
