It appears that my response has caused a misunderstanding with Frank.
I think that the sacrifice made (leaving Usenet) by Frank and Lenny
with the hope that Davey will leave also and reflect upon his behavior
and his actions here is a noble one. If Davey abides by this agreement
and uses the time to reflect on what he has done here and if that
reflection causes him to better himself then it will have been well
worth it.
Davey has been especially cruel with his words and intentions towards
me and selected others. I would like to believe that he doesn't acts
like this in what he calls "the real world" so it's almost as though
he has set up a "Morton's Demon" where he suppresses the knowledge
that there are people behind these words and he treats them as though
they are nothing more than adversaries in a computer game. He has
basically created a wall that separates "Usenet people" from "real
world people."
Since he has suppressed the awareness and understanding that "Usenet
people" are "real world people" who are just using a communication
protocol that appears unique to someone of his age who has grown up
with telephones and radios as the standard for communicating he feels
free to treat those people as though they are nothing more than
characters in a Castle Wolfenstein shoot'em up type game; the
difference being that text is the only weapons used. Over the years he
has fortified this wall developing an unhealthy perceptivity; an
outlet which allows him to act out the darkest side of humanity. It
has also given him a sense of power which would explain the obsession.
If this is the case and the pact that Frank offered (and Lenny joined
to sweeten the deal) works helping Davey to realize what he has
created here then I support them 100%. If each of us helped just one
other person in our lives it would end most of the suffering that
plagues mankind. I respect and humble myself to anyone that puts into
practice the teachings of the great teachers, e.g. Jesus, Buddha,
Krishna etc. living by the "Golden Rule." Frank and Lenny have proven
that they are men who do just that.
But there is a part of me that doesn't believe a single word Davey has
said about his "real world" life. Since he has lied so often and so
frequently I find it hard to believe a single word he says. He
certainly didn't treat Jason as though he was just part of the game
which makes it difficult to accept that he has lost the distinction
between people here and people in the "real world." As I have said so
many times before this is the typical behavior exhibited by many of
the people in my former "Calvinistic" world.
Davey needed a way out of this mess and he was trying to build one by
saying that Frank was a sock puppet so he could claim that we lack
integrity, and then he would leave with his ego intact. Since that was
taken away from him this pact was the next best thing, if not the only
option left for his ego. And that is why I posted that response.
Frank and Lenny have proven that they are honorable men with this
offer and I did not mean to trivialize it as my response may have
done. I fear that Davey is just taking advantage of them, but even if
this is true it doesn't impact my veneration for them. I hope that my
"gut feeling" about Davey is wrong, and these two men are rewarded for
their sacrifice by knowing that they were able to help their fellow
man.
