I'm not sure you can ever possess a wife in this day and age.
If we are developing a language from scratch then we need a special sort of
'my' when talking about possession, control or pure attribution.
In my language, you would have 'mawjxyy dom' for 'my house' if you were the
owner of the house, 'mawmyy dom' if you had it on an unfurnished let,
'mawryy dom' if you had it on a furnished let, or were the child or guest of
the owner.
I still haven't worked out whether 'my wife' would be 'mawjxaa', 'mawmaa' or
'mawraa' simanka, but I suppose it depends really on whether she's screwing
the neighbours or not.

You don't need sequence of tenses.
Just because one of us is tense doesn't mean we all need to be.
