There is also Shmuel Yosef Agnon and Nelly Sachs who shared the
Nobel prize for literature. AFAICT both wrote in Yiddish, though
I don't know if the particular pieces they won for were written
winner, while he wrote about Yiddish may not speak the language.
At least he does not write in it. So we just have 1 and 2 half
winners who actually wrote in Yiddish. Not bad for a dead
language with no mighty epics.
BTW, I am glad there are not bombastic Klezmer symphonies. That
would be silly for an improvisation based musical form. There
certainly are echoes of Klezmer in, say, Gershwin's _Rhapsody in
Blue_. Not bombastic, I admit, but not bad either.
